Portland Beavers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - Jack Cassel allowed two hits over five shutout innings in his return to the starting rotation and teamed with three relievers on a 2-0, four-hit shutout over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox before 9,373 in attendance for Kids Honor Day Sunday afternoon at PGE Park.

Portland (14-15) has won four of its last five and posted four shutouts in its last eight contests.

Cassel (3-2), who hasn't allowed an earned run over his last 16 innings, issued one walk and struck out three while lowering his season ERA to 3.82. It was his first start back in the rotation after making three relief appearances.

Aaron Rakers worked two innings, Andrew Brown worked one and Leo Rosales converted his eighth save opportunity for the Beavers, who conclude their homestand Monday morning against the Sky Sox. First pitch is 11:05 a.m.

The Beavers were held hitless through the first three innings before breaking through in the fourth. After Royce Huffman drew a leadoff walk, Vincent Sinisi dropped a single into shallow center and Brian Myrow followed with a run-scoring double. Sinisi came in to score on a sac fly off the bat of Luis Cruz.

Ubaldo Jimenez (1-3) struck out six and surrendered two runs, four hits and five walks in the loss for the Sky Sox (10-17).

NOTES: Sunday's crowd was the largest of the season ... former Beaver Jack Cust hit his first major league home run since 2003 in Oakland's 5-3 win over Tampa Bay Sunday ... the Beavers improved to 9-5 at home.
