San Antonio Missions News Release
San Antonio - San Antonio and Corpus Christi cant seem to get things done in nine innings as the Missions walk off winners 5-3 in the 11-inning on a Nate Freiman two-run home run. This was the third straight extra-innings game these two teams have played.
San Antonio starting pitcher Josh Geer started off rusty hitting the first batter he faced, Jonathan Villar, who then scored two batters later on a Jose Martinez single. Kody Hinze then batted Martinez in on a single to right field bringing the lead to 2-0.
The Missions were held hitless until the fourth inning when Ali Solis scored leadoff man Reymond Fuentes on a sharp single up the middle. Edinson Rincon then tied the game on a two-out single to right field to score Dean Anna who walked earlier in the inning.
San Antonio took their first lead of the game in the sixth inning after a Rincon sacrifice fly scored first baseman Freiman, Rincon's second of the night and 24 on the season. That lead was short lived as Missions' reliever Daniel Stange blew his save opportunity by loading the bases in the eighth with no outs.
Corpus Christi scored the tying run on a throwing error by third baseman Rincon and looked poised to score more. However, Stange recovered to strike out Hinze and Adam Bailey and get Drew Muren to fly out at the wall.
12-inning leadoff man Jonathan Galvez walked to bring up Freiman who then smashed a no-doubter onto the berm in left field to bring the Missions bench out to home plate to congratulate him. This was Freiman's second homerun in the last 34 games.
San Antonio is now 29-43 on the season and improves to 8-15 in one-run games. They will travel to Midland tomorrow to visit the Rockhounds in a four game series. Starting pitchers will be Keyvius Sampson (3-7, 5.99 ERA) for the Missions and Murphy Smith (4-4, 4.25 ERA) for Midland.
You can catch all the Missions action on KKYX 680 AM, the home of Missions baseball with Roy Acuff and Mike Saeger. Follow the radio booth at @SAMissionsRadio for live, in-game updates, trivia and more.
