Florence Y'alls News Release
YPSILANTI, MI - The Florence Freedom wasted no time messing around with the Midwest Sliders Tuesday night as they went on to cruise to a 13-2 win.
Brad Hough was one of three Freedom to homer with his in the form of a grand slam in the first inning off Slider starter Kyle Kearcher to make it 4-0 Florence.
With the score at 4-2 in the fourth, Steve Pickerell knocked in Johnny Welch who led off the inning with a double. Billy Mottram would then drive home Pickerell three batters later to make it 6-2.
That would not be the last time the Sliders would hear from Mottram. The second baseman who had been stuck on his eighth homerun since May 31, cranked a Chris Rollins pitch deep and out to right to leadoff the seventh to make it 7-2 Florence.
Rollins would get roughed up further in the ninth. After retiring the first two with strikeouts, seven straight Freedom reached, with six of them coming on in to score. The inning included Ryan Basham hitting a three run homer, his third of the season.
Andy Clark allowed two first inning runs but settled in as he went seven strong innings to pick up his first win of the year and improved to 1-1. Charles Williams and David Clark each had an inning of scoreless relief for the Freedom.
Kearcher dropped to 1-2 on the year for Midwest as he gave up six runs in six innings.
The Freedom (11-6) still sit at first place in the Frontier League East as they go into game two of their series against the Sliders (9-8) Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Tune in while the Freedom are on the road at 106.7 FM or 1067WNKR.com.
