ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford RiverHawks announced Tuesday that they have traded for third baseman Aaron Cone and released first baseman Scott Simon.
The RiverHawks acquired Cone from Shreveport-Bossier of the independent American Association in exchange for future considerations. Cone, 25, hit .129 with no home runs and three RBI in 13 games with the Captains. Last season, his first in professional baseball, Cone batted .338 with 13 home runs and 70 RBI for San Angelo of the United League. He has 1-Year status in the Frontier League.
Simon, a former Northern Illinois University player, batted .194 with no home runs and four RBI in 10 games.
The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 17th season this summer. The RiverHawks host the 2009 Frontier League All-Star Game at 7:05 p.m. on July 15. Advertising and season-ticket information is available by calling (815) 885-2255.
