Sauget, Illinois: The Freedom came into last night's contest with the Gateway Grizzlies looking to avoid the sweep, but the Freedom bats failed to come alive and Gateway completed the sweep, winning 5-0.
Greg Stone led the struggling Freedom offense, going 2-4 to raise his batting average .269. Florence got a strong performance from starting pitcher Luke Adkins, he went six innings, giving up four runs, striking out four. Curt Moenter pitched two scoreless innings of relief. The Freedom struck out eight times, and committed three errors.
Florence will try to snap out of their slump tonight in O'Fallon, Missouri when they take on the River City Rascals. This is the second series of a three series road trip, the Freedom don't return to Champion Window Field until June 10th.
