
Grizzlies comeback falls short

Gateway Grizzlies News Release
The Gateway Grizzlies scored three runs in the ninth inning Saturday night, but it wasn't enough. They stranded two as they fell to the Traverse City Beach Bums 7-6.
Both teams are now 5-5.
Traverse City led 7-3 going into the ninth inning. In the ninth, David Arnold led off with a pop fly that wasn't handled cleanly for a base hit. Kevin House followed with his second home run of the year to cut the Beach Bums' lead to two. Greg Isaacson was hit by a pitch. He scored on a two-out hit by Alex Stewart. Brooks Colvin followed with another base hit. Pinch hitter Rob Wirth followed. Wirth blasted a ball to the left field wall only to have Beach Bums' left fielder Al Roach leap up to make the catch to end the game.
The Grizzlies trailed 2-0 before scoring a pair of runs in the sixth. Mike Breyman drove in both with a triple off the wall in right field.
TC went back on top with two in the bottom half of the inning. The Grizzlies added a run in the eighth on sacrifice fly by Gary Gilbert. The Beach Bums answered with three in the bottom of the eighth to go up by four.
House was 3-4 wih the homer and two RBIs. Stewart was 1-3 with an RBI. Breyman was 1-3 with a pair of RBIs.
Todd Stein started and took the loss for the Grizzlies. Stein gave up four runs, three earned, on seven hits. In 5 2/3 innings he struck out seven. Chris Little gave up three runs in 2 1/3 innings of relief. He struck out four.
The Grizzlies and Beach Bums continue the series with a 5:05 p.m. (central time) game Sunday evening in Traverse City.
