June 3, 2006 - Frontier League (FL)
Washington Wild Things News Release
The Washington Wild Things (4-6), presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, dropped the first game of a three game series to the Rockford Riverhawks in front of a crowd of 3,188 in Rockford's brand new ballpark Saturday night.
Washington got off to a good start, scoring two runs in the first inning, but that would be the last time the Wild Things would crack the scoreboard.
Rockford answered the Wild Things with a run in the second, and in the third the Riverhawks tied the score. In the fourth inning, the Riverhawks took the lead.
In the ninth inning Washington endeavored to get back in the game, but stranded two runners.
Walt Novosel (0-1) takes the loss for Washington. The left-handed pitcher worked five innings, allowing three hits, three runs (two earned), walking two, and striking out two. Andy Carter pitched the final three innings for the Wild Things allowing two hits and striking out four.
The Wild Things will meet the Riverhawks again Sunday when first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Eastern time. The team returns to Washington to host the Evansville Otters Wednesday.
