ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Anaheim Ducks, NHL parent club of the AHL's Norfolk Admirals and ECHL's Fort Wayne Komets, have reassigned goaltender Frederik Andersen to the Admirals from the Danish National Team and have reassigned goaltender Marco Cousineau from the Admirals to the Komets. In addition, the Admirals have signed defenseman Sacha Guimond ("GWEE-mohn") to a new Professional Tryout Contract (PTO) and have released forward Brayden Irwin from his PTO.
Andersen, 6-foot-4, 250 pounds, represented Denmark in the final qualification tournament for the 2014 Winter Olympics. Denmark, which hosted all Group F games during the three-game round-robin tournament, finished third in Group F and did not earn a spot in the 2014 Winter Olympics. Andersen posted a 1-1-0 record with one shutout, a 1.01 goals-against average (GAA) and .960 save percentage (SV%) in two games for Denmark during the final Olympic Qualification Tournament. He led all Group F goaltenders in GAA and SV%.
Andersen has appeared in 23 games for Norfolk this season, going 9-10-1 with a 2.30 GAA and .929 SV%. He leads the Admirals in wins, GAA and SV% as he skates in his first North American pro season. In addition, Andersen ranks second among rookies and sixth overall in the AHL in save percentage while ranking fourth among rookies and 12th overall in goals-against average.
A native of Herning, Denmark, Andersen has represented Denmark at the last four IIHF World Championships in Finland/Sweden (2012), Slovakia (2011), Germany (2010) and Switzerland (2009). He was also a member of the Danish team at the 2008 IIHF World Junior Championship.
Anaheim selected Andersen in the third round (87th overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
Guimond, 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, appeared in one game with the Admirals last week, posting a plus-1 rating on Friday vs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton before being released on Sunday. He has appeared in three AHL games this season between the Admirals and Worcester Sharks. He made his AHL debut with Worcester on Jan. 12th at Albany after signing a PTO with the Sharks earlier that day. He was released by Worcester on Jan. 17th.
The 21-year-old native of Ville-Marie, Qubec, leads all ECHL defensemen in scoring and also ranks ninth among all ECHL rookies in scoring. He has appeared in 43 ECHL games during his first professional season, posting eight goals and 35 points between the San Francisco Bulls and Gwinnett Gladiators. Guimond was acquired by the Gladiators on Jan. 14th.
An undrafted defenseman, Guimond appeared in 99 career junior games between the OHL's London Knights and the QMJHL's Baie-Comeau Drakkar, scoring 10 goals and 47 points in two seasons.
Cousineau rejoined the Admirals last Saturday and served as Norfolk's backup goaltender that night and Sunday evening in Hershey. He did not see any game action in his second stint with the Admirals this season. Cousineau will return to ECHL Fort Wayne, where he is 3-5-0 record with a 3.41 GAA and .889 SV% in nine games with the Komets.
Irwin appeared in four games with the Admirals after being signed to a PTO on Feb. 1st. He posted two shots and two penalty minutes with an even rating. Irwin will return to the ECHL's Florida Everblades, where he has scored 14 goals and 29 points in 37 games this season.
