Hamilton, Ontario - The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Toronto Marlies 3-2 on Tuesday night at Copps Coliseum. Nathan Beaulieu scored the winner late in the third and Joey Tenute and Gabriel Dumont each had three assists.
The Marlies opened the scoring at 18:09 of the opening frame on a goal by Will Acton who wristed a shot from the left circle past Hamilton Bulldogs starting goaltender Robert Mayer. At the end of 20 minutes, Toronto led Hamilton 11-3 in shots.
The Bulldogs tied the score at 13:48 of the second stanza on a power-play tally by Stefan Chaput. After the puck took an awkward bounce in front of the net, Dumont slapped the puck from the bottom of the left circle which was stopped. The rebound came out to Chaput in the slot who chopped the puck past Toronto Marlies starting Goaltender Jussi Rynnas.
Toronto took the lead at 16:02 of the second period on a power-play tally by Joe Colborne which snapped a streak of 26-straight penalties killed by the 'Dogs.
Mike Blunden evened the score at two at 17:30 of the second frame as he tipped a slapper from Joey Tenute who shot the puck from the left circle. The 'Dogs outshot the Marlies 16-5 in the second period.
The Bulldogs took the lead for good at 17:14 of the third period on the power play as Nathan Beaulieu wired a shot from the point which flew by Rynnas who was being screened by Dumont in front of the net. Hamilton outshot Toronto by a count of 28-25 to finish the game, which was the final game of 12 meetings between the provincial rivals this season.
The Bulldogs' next game is against the Hershey Bears at Copps Coliseum on Friday, February 15th at 7:30 p.m. The game will air on Cable 14.
