D.C. United News Release

WASHINGTON, DC (June 11, 2004) - D.C. United forward Freddy Adu was selected to Coach Thomas Rongen's 23-man roster as the U.S. U-20 National Team faces defending U-20 FIFA World Champion Brazil in a Wednesday, June 16th friendly in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The match, scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. ET kick-off, will be available via ussoccer.com's MatchTracker, presented by Philips Electronics.

"We are excited for this opportunity for Freddy to compete against the current U-20 World Champions," said United Technical Director Dave Kasper.

Adu, who turned 15 last week, will travel to Ft. Lauderdale, FL on Monday for training with the U-20 National Team, and will return to practice with the Black-and-Red on Friday. He is not expected to miss any time as a result of this call-up.

The first overall pick in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft, Adu became the youngest player to play American professional sports in a century with his April 3, 2004 debut at RFK Stadium. In his first MLS campaign, he has appeared in each of United's 11 matches, being named to the starting eleven five times. Adu joined United from the U.S. Soccer Residency program in Bradenton, FL, where he was the leading scorer for the U-17 National Team. He saw action with the U-20's earlier this year in a friendly against Haiti, a 1-0 victory.
