June 11, 2004 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS, Ohio (Friday, June 11) â The Columbus Crew announced today that Euro 2004, the 2004 European Championships, will be shown in the Huntington Club at Crew Stadium. All games will be shown live unless noted on the schedule.
The cost to view the games at the Huntington Club is $20 per day or $125 for the full 19-day, 31-game tournament package. The latest you can order the tournament package is Saturday, June 19 at 5 p.m. Crew Stadium has acquired the television rights from Setanta Sports to be able to show the tournament.
By showing Euro 2004 in the Huntington Club, The Crew continues to be a leader in the soccer industry and, just like the highly successful World Cup Viewing parties in 2002, Crew Stadium is again a destination viewing spot for world-class soccer.
Euro 2004 is taking place in Portugal from June 12 through July 4. Euro 2004 is Europe's continental championship, a high-profile tournament featuring 16 national teams divided into four groups of four teams each. The top two in each group advance to the quarterfinal knockout stage, followed by the semifinals and final. The four groups are:
Group A - Spain, Portugal, Greece and Russia
Group B â France, England, Switzerland and Croatia
Group C â Sweden, Denmark, Bulgaria and Italy
Group D â Germany, Czech Republic, Latvia and Netherlands
Portugal is five hours ahead of Columbus, so the games kick off at Noon or 2:45 p.m. (ET). To accommodate fans who work during the day, The Crew will replay the weekday games simultaneously at 5:30 p.m. Due to the U.S.-Grenada World Cup qualifier taking place at Crew Stadium on Sunday, June 13, the Switzerland-Croatia game and the France-England game will be shown on delay at 5 p.m. Food and beverage will also be available for purchase during the viewing parties, but may not be brought into the stadium. The entire tournament viewing schedule is listed below.
To order the full tournament package, contact Jeff Wuerth via email at jwuerth@thecrew.com or call 614-447-4174. Orders can be purchased by cash, check or credit card, and may be ordered at Crew Stadium as well.
FUTURE CREW STADIUM VIEWING PARTIES TO INCLUDE U.S. WORLD CUP QUALIFYING MATCHES AS WELL AS THE 2006 FIFA WORLD CUP IN GERMANY
Crew Stadium is also planning on hosting free viewing parties in the Huntington Club for upcoming U.S. World Cup Qualifiers, as well as the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. The next U.S. National Team Qualifier is on Sunday, June 20, at 4 p.m. when the U.S. plays the return leg of the two-game Grenada series. The television schedule for the remaining U.S. qualifying games will be announced at a later date. The 2006 World Cup in Germany will be played from June 9 to July 9, 2006.
