Albany Devils News Release

WORCESTER, Mass. -- Jeff Frazee was busy in the Albany Devils 2-1 loss against the Worcester Sharks Wednesday at the DCU Center. The netminder tied a career-high with 43 saves, but the Devils failed to claim points towards their season-ending push towards the Calder Cup Playoffs.

With the loss, Albany remains in 11th place in the Eastern Conference -- five points behind Syracuse and Manchester, which are seventh and eighth in the standings. The Devils go to 30-30-6-5 and the Sharks improve to 29-30-4-7.

Returning from an injury suffered a week ago against Rochester, Jeff Frazee was busy throughout the contest. He made nine saves in the first, 20 in the second and 14 in the third. His previous season high was 38 at Manchester on Feb. 25.

The game-winning goal came off the stick of John McCarthy at 12:21 of the third period. Frazee had turned away the first two attempts before the Worcester left-winger picked up a rebound on the left doorstep.

Worcester established a 1-0 lead at 5:55 of the second with a goal by Tony Lucia.

Stephen Gionta responded with his sixth goal of the season and second in three games at 18:18 of the second with a wraparound attempt. The tally was setup by defensemen Jay Leach and Matt Corrente. Gionta's participation was a question mark at the beginning of the day. He practiced with the New Jersey Devils in Newark, N.J. in the morning and joined the AHL Devils in Worcester in time for warm ups.

Next up, the Devils meet the Adirondack Phantoms in a home-and-home series, beginning Friday at 7 p.m. at the Glens Falls Civic Center. The teams then compete Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Times Union Center for "Fan Appreciation Night." The first 2,000 fans will receive a Nathan Perkovich bobblehead courtesy of the Times Union. Additionally, prizes will be awarded throughout the game.
