KEARNEY, Neb. - The Sioux Falls Stampede (38-14-2) got a hat trick from leading goal scorer C.J. Franklin and defeated the Tri-City Storm by a score of 5-1 at the Viaero Event Center on Friday night.

Tri-City got their lone goal from forward Grant Opperman, who now has 12 tallies on the season. With an assist on the goal, forward Brian Ward extended his point streak to 13 games. Ward has also scored at least once in 24 of his last 25 games.

After a scoreless first period, the Storm took the lead with Opperman's goal, which was the first of the night at 9:05 of the middle frame.

The Storm held on to that lead until late in the second, when the Stampede tied the game on a goal by Tony Calderone.

A late penalty to Dylan Maller gave Sioux Falls a power play with just 26 seconds remaining in the second period. The Stampede capitalized just 10 seconds into their man advantage with Franklin getting his first goal of the night.

Franklin added two more goals in the third to complete the hat trick. All three of his goals were assisted by his center, Dennis Kravchenko.

Kravchenko added the final tally of the night, scoring an empty net goal when the Storm pulled goaltender Justin Quale during a late power play.

Quale looked good early for Tri-City, and finished the night with 24 saves on 28 shots.

The Storm outshot Sioux Falls 33-29.

Tri-City has the rest of the weekend off before heading on the road for two weekday games in the coming week. Tuesday the Storm are in Sioux City to face the Musketeers at 7:00 p.m. and will then rematch the Stampede in Sioux Falls on Wednesday night at 7:05.

The boys from Kearney are back at the Viaero Event Center on Mar. 22 to face the Des Moines Buccaneers at 7:30 p.m.
