Four unanswered goals pilots Amarillo's victory

Amarillo, TX - The Amarillo Gorillas registered four unanswered goals versus the Colorado Eagles Saturday night en route to a 5-4 victory. It was the first time since December of 2007 Amarillo has beaten Colorado on home ice.

Colorado's man-advantage unit took advantage of their first power-play opportunity, as forward Ed McGrane slipped home his sixteenth goal on the season at the 6:18 mark. Amarillo countered 1:06 later when forward Joe Guenther hit home an Erik Felde rebound shot for his 17th marker on the year. Amarillo 1 Colorado 1 after one period of play.

Amarillo turned up their play in the second period, scoring three times. Defenseman Shaun Arvai gunned his shot from the near point where it was deflected by an Eagle and into the net only 53 seconds into the frame. It was Arvai's first goal since December 7th. Forward Jason Beeman took advantage of a two-on-one opportunity with Joe Guenther with less than five minutes remaining in the period, while captain Gordon Bell back-handed his shot past Colorado goaltender Mike Mole one minute later for his seventh goal on the season. After two periods, Amarillo 4 Colorado 1.

After Eagles forward Steve Haddon scored to draw Colorado within one goal, forward Stuart MacRae added a tally on the power-play to give Amarillo the 5-2 lead. Despite Colorado's two goals in the final seven minutes, Amarillo pulled out their 10th one-goal victory of season, winning 5-4.

Amarillo is 8-1-1 when Joe Guenther registrars a point at home this season...Gorillas goaltender Tuomas Lohtander has won six of his last seven starts...with his goal and two assists, Gordon Bell has 8 points over his last 5 games...The Gorillas are 12-1 when leading after two periods of play...Amarillo is 4-1 over their last 5 home games.

The Gorillas take the again this Sunday, January 24th versus the Colorado Eagles. The first 250 fans into the building will be given a mini goalie stick sponsored by Panhandle Tickets.
