Allen Americans News Release

ALLEN, Texas - The Allen Americans defeated the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 5-1 in front of an enthusiastic home crowd at the Allen Event Center. The victory advanced the Americans' record to 27-9-3 (57 points).

Fans were treated to three goals and three fights in the opening period of tonight's contest as the Americans debuted their third silver jerseys. Allen's Britt Dougherty and Bossier-Shreveport's James DeLory were the first players to have a seat in the sin bin after the two had a bout at center ice just over the four-minute mark. Mudbug David Rutherford then grabbed the first goal at 6:37 before Jordie Benn and Bruce Graham notched back-to-back tallies for the Americans. Before the period ended, Tyler Wooddisse squared off with Jeff Kyrzakos, and Liam Huculak dropped the gloves with Neil Clark.

The second period was just as exciting as the first. Chris Whitley stopped 21 shots, and the Americans lit the lamp twice. With just over five minutes left in the period, defenseman Tyler Wooddisse found Christian Gaudet driving to the net to make it 3-1. About one minute later, Justin Bowers set up Nino Musitelli from behind the net to give the Americans a three-goal lead.

The Americans netted one more goal in the final frame to bring the score to 5-1. Justin Bowers recorded his fifth assist of the game when Gaudet scored his second goal of the night.

Chris Whitley made 33 saves and looked strong in net. The Americans played well on the penalty kill, not allowing a power play goal and killing off two 5-on-3s. The Americans host Corpus Christi Friday, Jan. 29, at the Allen Event Center at 7:30 p.m. as part of Hockey Weekend Across America.
