Beloit Sky Carp News Release
A wild finish resulted in a victory and the doubleheader sweep for the Snappers Saturday night. Beloit scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat the Swing of the Quad Cities in game two, 6-3. Reliever Jose Lugo recorded the win going two innings allowing two runs, zero earned, off one hit.
After Quad Cities got a run in the top of the third inning the Snappers answered right back with a run of their own in the bottom half. Steve Singleton tripled home Joe Benson, who earlier singled, to tie the game at 1-1. Singleton's triple was his second of the season.
Beloit got another run in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the lead. Chris Cates delivered an RBI single to short, scoring Matt Betsill from third. Cates' single pushed the Snappers ahead 2-1.
The Swing fired back with two runs in the top of the sixth inning. Quad Cities scored their two runs off one hit and two errors by the Snappers. The two runs gave them a 3-2 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth.
Beloit then exploded with a four-run outburst in the bottom of the sixth. The Snappers scored their runs on one hit and two errors by the Swing including a throwing error by pitcher Kenny Maiques that allowed two Snappers to score. After the Maiques error, Chris Cates delivered the lone hit of the inning, an RBI single to second base scoring Matt Betsill. Ramon Santana scored the last run of the inning on a wild pitch from Maiques during Joe Benson's at-bat. The four runs put Beloit ahead 6-3, a score they would eventually win by.
Jose Lugo pitched a scoreless seventh inning, including a strike out, to notch the win for the Snappers.
