Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

GRAND CHUTE, WI -- The Kane County Cougars banged out 16 hits and Henry Rodriguez continued his domination of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in a 7-1 win Saturday night on Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Rodriguez allowed one run and struck out eight in seven innings for his sixth win of the season, but he is 3-0 in four starts against the Timber Rattlers this season. Greg Dowling had three hits and drove in two runs for the Cougars.

Kane County scored in the first inning on a two-out RBI single by Dowling. They added to their lead with two more runs in the second inning. An RBI double by Mike Massaro and a run-scoring sacrifice fly by Josh Horton made the score 3-0.

A wild pitch by Rattler starting pitcher Matt Renfree allowed another Cougar run to score in the top of the fourth.

The Rattlers had a good opportunity against Rodriguez in the bottom of the fourth. Gavin Dickey singled to start the inning and Reed Eastley followed with a single that put runners on first and third. But, Rodriguez got out of the inning with a strikeout, a popout, and a ground out.

Kane County added two more runs in the top of the seventh inning. Another RBI single by Dowling got the first run home. Alex Valdez grounded into a 6-4-3 double play with runners on the corners to get the other run in for a 6-0 Kane County lead.

Wisconsin got on the board against Rodriguez in the bottom of the seventh inning. Juan Beltran hit his second home run of the season with two outs. The homer was only the second given up by Rodriguez in 99-2/3 innings of the season. But, Rodriguez ended the seventh by recording his eighth strikeout of the night.

Then, the Cougars got that run back in the top of the eighth inning with a sacrifice fly by Massaro.

Nick Walters relieved Rodriguez in the bottom of the eighth and pitched a 1-2-3 frame with two strikeouts. Ron Garth tripled to start the bottom of the ninth, but Walters struck out the next three batters to close out the Rattlers.

The teams will play a double header on Sunday. A rain out in Kane County on July 9th was not going to be made up unless it was needed for the playoffs. After Saturday's action, the Cougars find themselves just 1/2 game behind Peoria and Cedar Rapids for the second half Western Division Wild Card spot with two days left in the season.

Wisconsin will send Steve Richard (6-4, 3.67) to the mound in game one. John DuRocher, a 34th round pick of the Seattle Mariners in the 2007 draft out of the University of Washington, to make his Midwest League debut as the starting pitcher in game two. Kane County has Travis Banwart (2-1, 2.25) as their planned starter in game one. Scott Moore (1-4, 3.32) will start game two for Kane County. Game one begins at 1:05pm.
