MONTGOMERY, AL - A four-run sixth inning pushed the Biscuits (19-15) by the Tennessee Smokies (15-19) by a final of 7-4 Friday at Riverwalk Stadium, putting the Biscuits two games above .500 for the first time all year.
Tennessee scored twice in the top of the sixth to take their first lead of the night at 3-2. Brett Nommensen, making his Biscuits debut, hit his second single of the night to start the bottom of the inning. After Tim Beckham singled and stole second, Henry Wrigley knocked in a pair with a single to put the Biscuits back in front at 4-3. Matt Sweeney would deliver a two-run single later in the inning to push the lead to 6-3 and snap a Biscuits record 0-30 stretch.
The Biscuits had jumped out to a 2-0 lead early with Kyeong Kang's fourth homer in his last 15 at-bats starting the scoring in the second.
Marquis Fleming (4-2) gave up only a Josh Vitters solo homer in his 2.2 worked to get the win. Alex Colome took a no-decision, allowing three runs on seven hits over 5.1. Tennessee starter Austin Bibens-Dirkx (1-2) was tagged for six runs on six hits and a walk over his 5.1 in the loss.
The Biscuits will try to take four of five from the Smokies with RHP Nick Barnese opposing LHP Brooks Raley in the finale Saturday at 7:05.
