LAKEWOOD, NJ---Brandon Snyder's 2-run single off Andrew Cruse in the top of the ninth broke a 2-all tie and capped a 4-run ninth for Delmarva, who topped Lakewood 4-3 Friday at FirstEnergy Park. Andrew Cruse gave up the 4 runs, 3 earned, after allowing just 2 base-runners in his first 4.1 innings pitched this season.
Lakewood threatened in the ninth, after entering the inning down 4-2, getting the tying run on 3rd with two outs, but Tag Horner (save, 1) got Matt Reed to fly out to left to end the game.
The loss spoiled a win chance for Carlos Monasterios, who allowed just 2 hits and 0 runs in 7 innings of work. Delmarva starter Brad Bergesen was nearly as sharp, giving up just 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 9 in 7 innings.
The BlueClaws were only able to get 1 run off of Bergesen, and that came in the 4th on a ground-out by Gus Milner. It was the first earned run Bergesen allowed in 3 starts this season.
Carl Henry Jr. hit his first home run of the season in the eighth to make it 2-0 Lakewood going to the ninth.
Delmarva wins the series 2-1, and Lakewood falls to 5- 6, while Delmarva improves to 5-8.
The BlueClaws are next in action on Saturday at 1:05 as they open a series with the Hagerstown Suns. You can hear all the action on the Shore Sports Network (1160 WOBM-AM and 1310 WADB) at 12:50.
