Charleston RiverDogs News Release

CHARLESTON, SC - The New York Yankees have announced that Charleston RiverDogs centerfielder Austin Jackson has been placed on the disabled list as of April 18 with a lower body injury. Jackson, one of five RiverDogs to start the first 13 games of the season, suffered the injury in an April 17 loss at Kannapolis.

To fill the vacancy in the outfield, the RiverDogs have called up 21-year-old D.J. Hollingsworth from extended spring training. Hollingsworth played for the Yankees' Gulf Coast League squad in 2006, batting .216 with 11 stolen bases in 31 games. He led the league in bases on balls (30) and had an on-base percentage of .450.

Hollingsworth will start Friday, April 20, for Charleston at Kannapolis. He will bat ninth and play left field, while usual left fielder Seth Fortenberry will move to center.

Jackson batted .245 with six RBIs, a home run and four doubles through 13 games this season. He was on a three-game hitting streak prior to his injury and led the RiverDogs in multi-hit games with five.

The RiverDogs return to Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park Saturday, April 21, for the first of a four-game series with the Savannah Sand Gnats. Start time is 7:05 p.m.
