Tulsa- The Tulsa Drillers picked up their first win of the season Wednesday night thanks to an impressive combination of power hitting and strong work from the bullpen. The Drillers hit four home runs and three relievers combined for five perfect innings of work as the Drillers topped the Amarillo Sod Poodles 8-2 at ONEOK Field. The victory evened Tulsa's early-season record at 1-1.
A The Drillers actually fell behind in the contest when Ryder Jones staked Amarillo to a 1-0 lead with a solo homer in the top of the second.
The Drillers erased the lead and went in front to stay with a big bottom half of the second.
The big inning got started with consecutive walks to Ryan Noda and Carlos Rincon. Romer Cuadrado then deposited a pitch onto the left field berm for a three-run homer.
The Drillers were not finished, as Hunter Feduccia singled and Jacob Amaya walked. Michael Busch matched Cuadrado with another three-run blast that gave Tulsa a 6-1 lead.
The home runs continued to come as Noda led off the Drillers half of the third with an impressive drive that just missed clearing the hitter's background in straightaway center field. It was the second home run in two games for the Drillers designated hitter.
A solo blast by Dominic Fletcher accounted for Amarillo's second run before Carlos Rincon capped the night with the sixth homer of the game in the bottom of the eighth. Rincon's drive nearly landed in the Busch Scoreboard Bar well beyond the left field fence and was the final offensive production of the night.
The two home runs were the only hits in the game for Amarillo.
HOW IT HAPPENED
*Relievers Bryan Warzek, Mark Washington and Nick Robertson were all perfect over the final five innings, retiring all 15 batters they faced.
*Every run that scored in the game came from home runs.
*Andre Jackson made his first start on the mound for the Drillers. Jackson worked the first four innings, allowing the two solo homers while striking out three.
*Tulsa pitchers did not issue a walk in the game.
*In a rarity, Amarillo finished the game with no runners left on base.
