San Antonio Missions News Release
SAN ANTONIO - The Missions struggled offensively for the second straight night and allowed three home runs during their Thursday night loss to Corpus Christi. Final score was 6-1.
The Missions wasted no time taking an early lead. After a lead-off single from Robbie Podorsky, he stole second, and then was driven home thanks to a Kyle Overstreet RBI single. This was the first at-bat of the season for Overstreet.
The Hooks were able to answer back in the bottom half of the first inning. With a runner on first, David Hensley connected on his second home run of the season to give Corpus a 2-1 lead. The Hooks have homered in each of the three games they have played. A solo home run from Norel Gonzalez in the second inning made it an early 3-1 lead for Corpus Christi.
Hensley would strike again with two outs in the third inning, launching a two-run home run off Boushley. This was the third home run of the game for the Hooks and made it a 5-1 game. Hensley added another RBI hit in the sixth inning to finish with 5 RBI on the night.
The Missions were able to load the bases in the top of the sixth inning with one out but stranded all three runners after back-to-back strikeouts.
Caleb Boushley was the starting pitcher for San Antonio and made his Double-A debut. Boushley allowed five earned runs, including three home runs, across four innings of work. He received the loss and falls to 0-1 on the season.
Left-hander Jonathan Bermudez started for Corpus Christi. Aside from the RBI single, Bermudez struck out the side in the first inning and punched out seven of the first nine batters he faced. He finished with eight strikeouts in five innings of work. He improves to 1-0 on the season.
