The Story:
The Winterhawks rattled off four goals in under a seven-minute span during the first period and held on from there, allowing just two goals in the final 40 minutes en route to a 4-2 win over the Rockets.
Portland's Marcus Nguyen got the scoring started at 5:23 of the contest, taking a pass from Jaydon Dureau and deftly backhanding the puck past Colby Knight. Gabe Klassen doubled the lead with a rebound tally just over two minutes later, and Dawson Pasternak pounced on a loose puck 55 seconds later to make it 3-0 Hawks. When Jaydon Dureau tipped home a Tyson Kozak centering feed midway through the frame to make it 4-0, Kelowna swapped netminders for a second straight night with Talyn Boyko relieving Knight this time.
The Rockets mounted a comeback with Colton Dach and Turner McMillen goals early in the second period to halve the Hawks' lead, but Lochlan Gordon and the Portland penalty-killing units stepped up to keep Kelowna at bay and cruise to the 4-2 victory.
QUOTE OF THE NIGHT presented by BBF TECHNOLOGIES:
"We were confident in what we were doing and smart defensively. It was a good 60 minutes and we need to keep that going."
