Spokane Chiefs News Release
Everett, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs couldn't find their footing Saturday night against the division-leading Everett Silvertips, as they fell 4-1 on the road.
The Silvertips got off to a hot start in the first period, opening the scoring at 6:55 when veteran center Jacob Wright wrapped around the posts and snuck the puck past Chiefs netminder Mason Beaupit.
A slashing penalty on Spokane's Ty Cheveldayoff put the Chiefs on the penalty kill and Everett capitalized on the opportunity. Anaheim Ducks prospect Olen Zellweger fired a power play goal into the net at 14:30, quickly followed by another power play goal from Jackson Berezowski at 16:37 - this one after a penalty on Carter Streek for roughing - to give the Silvertips a 3-0 lead through the first period.
The second period was a much quieter affair, with the Chiefs keeping Everett at bay until 10:52 when Michael Gut netted his fourth goal of the year. Spokane went on their first power play of the game nearly 17 minutes into the second period, but failed to convert it into a score, ending the frame at 4-0.
The Chiefs got themselves on the board at 5:58 in the third period as rookie forward Yannick Proske charged down the left wing and slapped the puck into the top right corner of the net to avoid the shutout.
The Silvertips were in control for much of the game as they outshot the Chiefs 38-23. Beaupit turned aside 34 of 38 shots faced, including 10 in the final frame.
Up next, the Chiefs will head home to host the Kelowna Rockets on Wednesday, November 24 at 7:05 p.m. It's the first time the two teams will face each other since February 1, 2020.
