Portland Winterhawks News Release
Portland, Ore. - The Winterhawks rattled off four goals in under a seven-minute span during the first period and held on from there, allowing just two goals in the final 40 minutes en route to a 4-2 win over the Kelowna Rockets.
Portland's Marcus Nguyen got the scoring started at 5:23 of the contest, taking a pass from Jaydon Dureau and deftly backhanding the puck past Colby Knight. Gabe Klassen doubled the lead with a rebound tally just over two minutes later, and Dawson Pasternak pounced on a loose puck 55 seconds later to make it 3-0 Hawks.
When Jaydon Dureau tipped home a Tyson Kozak centering feed midway through the frame to make it 4-0, Kelowna swapped netminders for a second straight night with Talyn Boyko relieving Knight this time.
The Rockets tried to mount a comeback with Colton Dach and Turner McMillen each scoring goals early in the second period to halve the Hawks' lead, but Lochlan Gordon and the Portland penalty-killing units stepped up to keep Kelowna at bay and cruise to the 4-2 victory.
The win marks the Winterhawks first home sweep of the season and they have won 14 straight contests at home against Canadian opponents dating back to November 3, 2019 (749 days).
Portland continues its season-long 11-game homestand on Thanksgiving Eve (Wednesday) against the Vancouver Giants for a 7:00 p.m. puck drop on Hawks Fight Cancer Night.
