Bakersfield Condors News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - All good things must come to an end and that's what happened to the Bakersfield Condor's four-game winning streak Saturday. Tim Verbeek's hat trick led the way for Stockton, as the Thunder came up 6-1 winners Saturday night, before 8,911 at the Stockton Arena.

Bakersfield (20-11-3, 43 points) remains one point back of the second-place Fresno Falcons, while Stockton (18-7-6, 42 points) creeps back to within one point of the Condors.

After a scoreless first period, the Thunder erupted four times in the second period. Mike Lalonde started the barrage with a short-handed goal 4:24 into the frame, which ignited Stockton's annual Teddy Bear Toss.

Tim O'Connell got on the board at 11:28 before Verbeek netted his first of the night at 14:33, squeezing a back-hander past Condors goaltender Danny Taylor. Troy Bodie made it a 4-0 game at the 18:22 mark of the third period, connecting on a nice two-on-one play with Tyler Spurgeon.

Verbeek got his second of the game 4:36 into the second period, giving the Thunder a commanding five-goal lead.

The lone Bakersfield goal came thanks to ECHL All-Star Rane Carnegie, who potted his seventh of the year at the 13:48 mark. Brett Lutes got knocked into Thunder netminder Devan Dubnyk and Carnegie was right there to put home the rebound.

The night, however, belonged to Verbeek and the veteran winger notched his hat trick goal - seventh marker overall this season - at 17:35.

Another Bakersfield streak came to an end Saturday as the Condors failed to convert on the power play for the first time in 23 games.

Notes: Goaltender Yutaka Fukufuji, who began his pro career with the Condors in 2004-05, made his NHL debut Saturday for the Los Angeles Kings, becoming the first Japanese-born player to play in an NHL regular season game. Fukufuji stopped four of five shots in the third period, as the Kings fell to the St. Louis Blues 6-5. Connor James and Garret Stroshein are the other former Condors to make it to the NHL.

Todd Griffith will compete in three events and Rane Carnegie will participate in two at the Rbk Hockey ECHL All-Stars Competition Tuesday in Boise, Idaho. Griffith will participate in the "Fastest Skater," "Rapid Fire" and "Breakaway Relay" competitions. Carnegie will also take part in the "Breakaway Relay" and "Hardest Shot" competitions.
