
Four Earthquakes Players Called for International Duty

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Four San Jose Earthquakes players have been called up by their respective national teams for the upcoming FIFA break. Francisco Calvo (Costa Rica), Siad Haji (Somalia), Marcos Lopez (Peru), and Jamiro Monteiro (Cape Verde) will all represent the Quakes in FIFA World Cup qualifiers or friendlies in March.
Francisco Calvo , 29, has been called to the Costa Rica National Team for three FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. Costa Rica is set to host Canada on Thursday, March 24 (7 p.m. PT), face El Salvador on Sunday, March 27 (2 p.m. PT), and host the United States on Wednesday, March 30 (6 p.m. PT). Costa Rica is currently in fifth place in CONCACAF, with three teams gaining automatic qualification to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the fourth-place team advancing to the inter-confederation playoffs. Calvo has scored four goals across 70 prior appearances for the Costa Rica National Team.
Siad Haji , 22, earned a call-up to the Somalia National Team for their 2023 African Cup of Nations two-leg preliminary round against Eswatini on Wednesday, March 23 (6 a.m. PT) and Sunday, March 27 (6 a.m. PT). Haji made his first appearance with Somalia in a friendly against Tanzanian club Azam FC on March 19, providing an assist.
Marcos Lopez , 22, has been called to represent Peru for a pair of FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. Peru will face Uruguay on Thursday, March 24 (4:30 p.m. PT), before hosting Paraguay on Tuesday, March 29 (4:30 p.m. PT). Peru is currently in fifth place in CONMEBOL, with four teams gaining automatic qualification to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the fifth-place team advancing to the inter-confederation playoffs. The Callao, Peru native has made 19 prior appearances for the Peru National Team, including 12 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. He most recently participated in Peru's training camp in January.
Jamiro Monteiro , 28, has been called to the Cape Verde National Team for three friendlies against Guadeloupe on Wednesday, March 23 (12 p.m. PT), Liechtenstein on Friday, March 25 (9 a.m. PT), and San Marino on Monday, March 28 (9 a.m. PT). Monteiro has scored one goal in 20 appearances for Cape Verde, most recently making three appearances in the African Cup of Nations in January.
