Earthquakes Weekly Update: March 21, 2022

San Jose Earthquakes News Release


The San Jose Earthquakes fell to Minnesota United FC 1-0 last Saturday at Allianz Field. The Quakes do not have a match this weekend due to a FIFA break and will return to action on Saturday, April 2 when the club hosts Austin FC at PayPal Park.

During the upcoming international break, Francisco Calvo (Costa Rica), Siad Haji (Somalia), Marcos Lopez (Peru), and Jamiro Monteiro (Cape Verde) will represent their respective national teams in FIFA World Cup qualifiers or friendlies.

Later this week, PayPal Park will host an international friendly between Mexico's Chivas de Guadalajara and Club Leon on Saturday, March 26 at 5:30 p.m. PT.

PayPal Park to Host Monterey Bay F.C. vs. Bay Cities FC in U.S. Open Cup Second Round

PayPal Park, home of the San Jose Earthquakes, will host a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Second Round match between Monterey Bay F.C. vs. Bay Cities FC on Wednesday, April 6. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. General admission tickets are available for purchase here , with fans having the option to sit in the main bowl ($25) or field club ($50). Quakes Season Ticket Holders can purchase discounted tickets by contacting their Account Service Representative.

Earthquakes Announce Partnership with Adobe Inc.

The Quakes announced last Wednesday a partnership with Adobe Inc. (NASDAQ: ADBE). The partnership is built to celebrate the talent and passion within our diverse communities in San Jose by unlocking their creativity with Adobe's expertise. The Earthquakes and Adobe are coming together to celebrate the rich diversity and creativity of fans. Using Adobe's creative tools, both organizations will team up on fan-engaging community activations.

Earthquakes Partner with Parking Operations Leader Propark Mobility

The Earthquakes announced last Friday a multi-year partnership with Propark Mobility. Propark will lead all parking operations during Quakes matches and non-MLS events at PayPal Park. Propark will also provide PayPal Park with end-to-end mobility solutions, leveraging technology for a world-class fan experience. Initial plans include designating pick-up and drop-off zones for Uber, Lyft, and other transportation network companies, along with coordinating traffic light signal controls to coincide with the ingress and egress of fans during stadium events.

THIS WEEK IN EARTHQUAKES HISTORY

A look back on important moments in Quakes history that took place during the week of March 21 - 27.

March 21, 1997 - Acquired Ronald Cerritos as an MLS allocated player

The Earthquakes acquired forward Ronald Cerritos as an MLS allocated player on March 21, 1997. The San Salvador, El Salvador native scored in his MLS debut against the LA Galaxy and scored an additional 11 goals during his first season for the Earthquakes, earning him MLS Best XI honors and a place in the 1997 MLS West All-Star team. Cerritos was the Quakes' leading scorer in 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2001. In 2001, he also helped the Earthquakes win their first MLS Cup and was selected to the West All-Star team. The forward left the Earthquakes after the 2001 season but returned in 2005 for one final season with San Jose.

March 22, 2015 - Defeated Chicago Fire FC 2-1 in first match at PayPal Park

The Earthquakes defeated Chicago Fire FC 2-1 in their inaugural match at PayPal Park on March 22, 2015. Rookie midfielder Fatai Alashe opened the scoring with the Quakes' first-ever goal in their new stadium, while defender Ty Harden scored the eventual winner for the home side. Harrison Shipp scored Chicago's lone goal, but it was not enough to sour the Quakes' PayPal Park debut.

ACADEMY UPDATE

The Quakes Academy Boys U13s (8-0) and U14s (5-0) defeated Sheriffs FC on Saturday, outscoring them a combined 13-0.

The U13s and U14s will now face SF Elite on Saturday and FC Bay Area on Sunday, while the U15s and U17s return to play by hosting Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday and the Portland Timbers on Sunday.
