FC Cincinnati News Release
FC Cincinnati defender Ronald Matarrita has been called up to duty for the Costa Rica National Team for the upcoming and final CONCACAF FIFA World Cup Qualifying window from March 24-March 30.
The next cap for Matarrita will be his 50th career cap for the national team. The Ticos are fighting for a spot in the top four of CONCACAF's qualification table, seeking their sixth FIFA World Cup qualification in the nation's history. Costa Rica sit in fifth place heading into the final three matches, one point back of fourth-place Panama and five points back of Mexico and the United States, who occupy the final two automatic qualification spots.
Matarrita joins Costa Rica after helping the Orange and Blue knock off Inter Miami CF 3-1 this past Saturday at TQL Stadium. His goal opened scoring in the 18th minute, and he assisted each of Brandon Vazquez's goals in the 24th and 82nd minutes. Him, along with Vazquez, became the second and third players in club history to record three goals + assists in a game (Brenner - 7/17/21 at CF Montréal).
Below are the fixtures for Matarrita and the Ticos:
Thursday, March 24 - vs. Canada (Estadio Nacional; San José, Costa Rica)
Sunday, March 27 - at El Salvador (Estadio Cuscatlán; San Salvador, El Salvador)
Wednesday, March 30 - vs. United States (Estadio Nacional; San José, Costa Rica)
