Dakota Wizards News Release

Bismarck, N.D. January 31, 2009: Coleman Collins only tallied 10 points on the night, but none were bigger than his layup with 7.4 seconds left in the game to give the Fort Wayne Mad Ants a 100-98 win over the Dakota Wizards, ending the Wizards five game winning streak at the Bismarck Civic Center.

The Wizards controlled much of the game and actually had a 12 point lead at the midway point of the third quarter. After Wizards forward Renaldo Major's layup extended the Wizards lead to 74-62 with 5:59 left, Mad Ants coach Jaren Jackson called a time-out and rallied his troops as they finished out the quarter on 14-5 run to trim the Wizards lead to only 3 at 79-76.

Fort Wayne, who improved to 10-14 on the season, kept scrapping back and only led six times the entire game, each of them being the fourth quarter. With the score tied at 98 all, the Wizards got the defensive stop they needed and called timeout with 24.9 seconds left. Wizards guard Maurice Baker's inbounds pass was stolen by Carl Elliott which led to Collins' basket and a foul. The 6'9 forward from Virginia Tech missed the subsequent free throw and the Wizards still had a chance to win the game. Dakota forward Will Frisby's driving layup was off the mark and Renaldo Major's tip at the buzzer fell just short.

Elliott ended the evening with a team high 22 points for Mad Ants while reserve forward DeWitt Scott added 10, eight of which were in the decisive fourth quarter.

For the Wizards, now 15-12, Baker tallied a game high 23 points, 19 of which came in the first half. Forward Richard Hendrix continued his domination of the glass, recording his 12th double-double on the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Frisby continued his fine play, adding 20 points and grabbing 8 boards.

The same two teams return to the Bismarck Civic Center on Tuesday for a 7pm CT tip.
