ERIE - The NBA Development League Erie BayHawks announced their third roster move of the season with the addition of former North Carolina State guard Tony Bethel.
Tony Bethel Bio-
Position: Guard Height/Weight: 6-2 / 185 High School: Montrose Christian School (Rockville, MD) College: North Carolina State Career to date: Averaged 18 points, seven rebounds, five assists and five steals as a high school senior. Considered Georgia Tech, Virginia, St. John's and Villanova before settling on Georgetown as his original college choice. Missed the first month of the season because he had mononucleosis as a Georgetown freshman. Made up for lost time, becoming a starter in January and averaging 10.1 points and 4.2 rebounds for the season. Posted 10.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists as a sophomore. Sat out the 2003-04 campaign as a redshirt transfer at NC State. Scouting Report: Reliable playmaker has great intelligence and instincts... Solid athlete, possesses a quick first step...Penetrates in stages, showing patience...Has a certain "skip" in his drive...Prefers to play on the perimeter rather than in traffic...Good jump shooter but will not look for many off-balance scoring opportunities... Spots open teammates on the wing and is a crisp passer.
The BayHawks will wrap up a four game road trip with a game versus the Bakersfield Jam. After snapping an eight game losing streak with a ten point victory over the Anaheim Arsenal, Friday night. Bethel is set to join the team upon their return to Erie.
To make room on the roster for the addition the BayHawks released guard Mike Cook.
The BayHawks take on the NBA Development League defending champion Idaho Stampede, Wednesday, February 4, 7:00 at the Tullio Arena. Tickets are available at the Tullio Arena box office and by phone at 452-4857.
