Erie BayHawks News Release
ANAHEIM, Calif. (Jan. 30, 2009) - Erik Daniels collected his 18th double-double with 31 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Erie Bayhawks (12-16) over the Anaheim Arsenal (9-17) 103-93. The win brought Erie's eight game losing streak to an end.
Erie got off to a quick lead in the first quarter outscoring the Arsenal 27-15. The Anaheim offense was caught off guard by a tough Erie defense who forced six turnovers and kept the Arsenal offense to a 31.6 field goal percentage. Erie even managed to contain NBA D-League leading scorer James White to only 20 total points.
The Arsenal was able to recover in the second quarter as Kedrick Brown led the Arsenal with 14 points in the first half. From that point on, both offenses matched each other point for point for the remainder of the contest but Erie kept the Arsenal from recovering from their first quarter deficit. Brown ended leading the Arsenal with 30 points.
"Our guys recovered after the first but we weren't able to capitalize on our opportunities," Arsenal assistant coach Paul Mokeski said.
Erie's guards had a dominant night as both Maureece Rice and Oliver Lafayette finished with 28 points.
Arsenal guard Chet Mason had a breakout night as he recorded 18 points and collected 18 rebounds.
Erie heads up the coast to take on the Bakersfield Jam on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. while the Arsenal will follow with a game against the Jam on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
