Former Zephyr Daryle Ward Scheduled to Play Against Zephyrs

METAIRIE — The New Orleans Zephyrs, the Class AAA Pacific Coast League Affiliate of the Houston Astros are pleased to announce that former Zephyr Daryle Ward is currently on the Las Vegas 51's roster and is scheduled to play against the Zephyrs this weekend when the 51's come to Zephyr Field and take on the Z's in a four game series starting on Saturday at 7:05 PM.

Ward, who played in a 190 games for the Zephyrs in 1997, 1998 and 1999, has a career batting average of .324 (243x749) which ranks first in New Orleans Zephyrs history. His 53 home runs and 168 RBI both rank second in New Orleans Zephyrs history. He belted 28 home runs in 1999 which is a record while his 96 RBI in 1998 help lead the Z's to the Triple A World Series title and ranks second only to Larry Sheets' total of 98 in the Z's inaugural season in New Orleans in 1993.

Ward appeared in 418 games for the Astros (1998-2002) with a .269 (291x1083) average, 49 home runs and 188 RBI. He was traded by the Astros to Dodgers for RHP Ruddy Lugo on January 25, 2003. He batted ..183 (20x109) with 9 RBI in 52 games for the Dodgers before being optioned to Las Vegas on July 23rd.

The Zephyrs will face off against the 51's in a four game series on Saturday August 2nd to Tuesday August 5th. All games are scheduled to start at 7:05 PM with the exception of Sunday August 3rd which is 5:05 PM start. For more information, call the Zephyrs office at (504) 734-5155.
