Portland Beavers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - Ben Risinger capped off a 4-for-4 evening with an eighth inning grand slam, as the Beavers defeated the Sacramento River Cats, 6-3, before 5,614 fans Wednesday night at PGE Park.

In the bottom of the eighth, Sacramento's Justin Lehr walked three batters to load the bases with the River Cats on top, 3-2. Jeremy Fikac was brought in to face Risinger, who belted the first pitch onto 18th street, clearing the bases and handing the Beavers a 6-3 win.

Risinger fell a triple short of hitting for the cycle, notching a single, a double and a home run on a 4-for-4, five RBI night.

The Beavers, who have won four of five, are just two games behind first-place Edmonton in the North Division.

Portland starter Carlton Loewer was solid through seven, allowing two runs on four hits and at one point, retiring nine-straight batters. Cliff Bartosh (2-4) got the win, giving up a run on three hits in the eighth.

Tagg Bozied went 2-for-3 Wednesday and Jason Bay was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

Brandon Villafuerte threw a scoreless ninth inning to earn his eighth save of the year.

In the first inning, Bozied hit a double down the left field line, advancing Khalil Greene to third with one out. Bay stepped up to the plate next and hit a sac-fly deep to center, sending Greene home and putting the Beavers up, 1-0.

Portland tacked on a run in the fourth, as Risinger scored Donaldo Mendez with a two-out double to right-center.

Sacramento's Mike Lockwood hit a leadoff triple in the third and went on to score after Esteban German hit a sac-fly.

German dialed in his second RBI of the night in the fifth, as Sellier scored on a fielder's choice. Luis Lopez knocked in a run in the eighth.

Justin Lehr (3-2) got the loss for the River Cats, giving up three runs in 1.1 innings.
