Pensacola Pelicans News Release

The Pensacola Pelicans announced today that they have signed right-handed infielder Bo Williams to a contract for the 2007 season. Williams was a standout collegiate athlete at Pensacola Junior College and at the University of West Florida where he finished his senior year this past May.

"We feel fortunate to have Bo join our team," said Pelicans General Manager Talmadge Nunnari. "I know several MLB team turned him in for the draft and am surprised he slipped through. I expect him to do well at this level."

In his two years with UWF, Williams finished with a .369 batting average, 73 runs, 33 doubles, 12 home runs, and 101 RBI. He was named to the All-Gulf South Conference First Team in 2006 and the Second Team in 2007. Williams also earned the GSC East Division Player of the Week Award twice, one in each season.

"Bo was one of our best clutch hitters in UWF history," said UWF Head Baseball Coach Mike Jeffcoat. "He is a fine individual and I believe he will add a solid bat to the Pelicans line-up."

Williams joins former teammate pitcher Todd Androsko on the Pelicans roster. Androsko pitched for UWF for four seasons before beginning his professional career with the Pelicans in 2006.

In other Pelicans transactions, the Pelicans have released outfielder Chaz Lytle to open up a roster spot for Williams.

Pels Notes: The Pelicans are in Coastal Bend for a three-game series against the Aviators before heading to Fort Worth. Pensacola will play the Cats in two double-headers on Friday and Saturday, both games beginning at 5:05, to make up for the rainout games from May 28-30. The last game will be played on Sunday at 6:05 p.m.
