St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN (June 12, 2007) - The hits kept coming and coming and coming as the St. Paul Saints pounded out 21 hits, their most of the season, as they hung a 13 spot on the Lincoln Saltdogs in a 13-1 victory on Tuesday night at Midway Stadium in front of 5,523.

The Saints busted a 2-1 game wide open as they scored eight runs, the most in an inning this season, in the sixth. The Saints sent 13 men to the plate and as they batted around eight of the first nine hitters collected a hit. Josue Lopez was the only hitter in the inning not to collect a hit, but he was robbed when Josh Patton made a diving play to force Adam Bourassa at second, but the play still allowed a run to score. The Saints hit for the cycle in the inning with five singles, two doubles, a triple by Ryan Priddy and a two-run homer by Alex Fonseca. Brian Sprout collected two hits in the inning, an RBI double and an RBI single.

Every single Saint collected at least one hit with Fonseca going 4-5 with a homer, three RBI and a run scored. Brent Krause extended his hitting streak to 15 games by going 2-5. Seven of the nine Saints had a multi-hit night.

Not to be overshadowed was Luis Villarreal's performance on the mound. The Saints starter allowed just one run, in the third inning on an RBI single by Patton. Villarreal went 7.0 innings allowing one run on eight hits while walking one and striking out seven as he picked up his third win of the season.

The same two teams meet Wednesday night in the series finale. The Saints send LHP Adam Brandenburg (1-0, 3.86) to the mound against Saltdogs RHP Jarrett Gardner (4-0, 1.75). The game can be seen on the Saints Cable Network and heard on KBGY 107.5 FM. It is Desperate Housewives Night at the ballpark.
