
Diablos Pound Explorers, 13-4

The El Paso Diablos pounded the Sioux City Explorers 13-4 on Tuesday night from Cohen Stadium.
Greg Wiltshire escaped a mini-jam in the top of the first. Jason Tuttle led off with a ground-ball single through the right side. Two ground outs advanced Tuttle to third base. However, Greg Wiltshire struck out Jorge Moreno to end the frame.
The Diablos struck first in the bottom of the second. With two outs, the Diablos had four singles in a row. Joel Izquierdo and Kory Drew picked up RBI's giving El Paso a 2-0 advantage.
Sioux City answered El Paso the very next inning. Jason Tuttle drew a two-out walk to start the rally. The Explorers had three singles in a row scoring Jason Tuttle and Nick McCoola which knotted up the game at 2-2.
El Paso took the lead in the bottom of the third. Jorge Alvarez led things off with a sharply hit single into shallow right. Juan Camacho followed with a single and advanced Alvarez to third. Walter Olmstead plated Camacho with a ground out to the second base for the 3-2 lead.
The Diablos had an explosive bottom of the fourth. El Paso plated five runners on six base hits. Kory Drew, Logan Wood, Walter Olmstead and Jorge Alvarez all had RBI's in the frame. El Paso took a 8-3 lead into the top of the fifth.
Sioux City added one to the scoreboard in the top of the fifth and sixth innings. Julian Benavidez belted a solo home-run to dead center field cutting the deficit to 8-3. One inning later Jake Daubert singled and eventually scored on a wild pitch cutting the lead to 8-4.
The Diablos had a big sixth inning to put the game out of reach. Juan Camacho started things off with a mammoth blast to deep right field for the solo homer. The Diablos tacked on three more runs building a 12-4 advantage.
El Paso scored the final run of the night in the bottom of the seventh. Walter Olmstead drove in Juan Camacho with an RBI single for the 13-4 lead.
Greg Wiltshire (5-2) threw seven full allowing four runs off of seven hits with one walk and five strikeouts.
Aaron Wilson gets the loss (2-2) as he tossed only three and a third innings allowing six earned runs off of 11 hits with no walks and two strikeouts.
Evan Neiser and Garvis Romero each threw scoreless innings of relief.
The Diablos will take on the Sioux City Explorers in the second game of the three game set on Wednesday night. The Diablos still hold a 1.5 game lead over the Shreveport Sports in the Southern Division standings. Andy Torres will toss against Alexander Francisco. The game will be broadcast live at www.diablos.com with Jon Barr on the call.
