Former Rox RHP John Kelly named to All-Star Team

Brockton, MA (August 30, 2007) - Former Brockton Rox RHP John Kelly has been named to the 2007 Can-AM League All-Star team. In his second season with Brockton, Kelly went 7-2 with a 2.27 ERA. On August 20th he was traded to the New Jersey Jackals for the duration of the 2007 season. In exchange for Kelly, the Rox received Kelly's rights for the 2008 season and two players to be named later from the Jackals.

In 2007 he broke the Rox single season strikeout record on August 16th against the Sussex Skyhawks. He finished the season with Brockton with 114 strikeouts. After being traded to New Jersey, he broke the Can-Am League record for most single season strikeouts surpassing the previous record that he held of 118 on the season. During his two seasons with the Rox, Kelly compiled a 15-3 record and a 2.13 ERA in 33 games. He was named the Rox 2006 Pitcher of the Year after compiling one of the finest seasons in team history. After a trade from the Jackals in June 2006, Kelly finished the season 8-1 with a 1.92 ERA for the Rox, helping to lead the club to the Can-Am League Championship Series.

The 34-year old right-hander has pitched in the Can-Am League/Northeast League since 2003, pitching for the Rox, Jackals, and North Shore Spirit. He began his career in 1994 as a draftee of the New York Mets. Kelly has pitched for the Mets, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Seattle Mariners organizations during the course of his 14-year career, including a season with the AAA Tacoma Rainers (Seattle) in 2004. The Leominster, MA native is the Head Coach at Concord-Carlisle High School during the academic calendar year.
