Peoria Rivermen News Release
Peoria, Ill. (June 30, 2004) - Larry Pleau, Senior Vice President/General Manager of the St. Louis Blues and General Manager of Hockey Operations of the American Hockey League's (AHL) Worcester IceCats, announced Tuesday that former Rivermen center Brendan Brooks, heading into his seventh professional season, has been signed by the IceCats - Peoria's AAA affiliate.
On a two-way contract with the Rivermen and the IceCats last season, Brooks - a 5-foot-10, 185-pound native of St. Catharines, Ontario - was reassigned to Worcester on January 14 and did not return. In 32 regular season games with the IceCats, he posted 12 points (6g, 6a) with two game-winning goals and 10 penalty minutes (PIM), and in 10 playoff games, he collected a game-winning goal, an assist and 10 PIM. He notched 24 points (11g, 13a) and 50 PIM in 30 games with the Rivermen to open the 2003-2004 campaign, his second with the team.
Brooks, who has 264 career points (135g, 129a) and 503 PIM in 384 games, ranked second on the Rivermen in power play goals (T-8) in 2002-2003 and was third in goals (23) and points (52). He equaled his career mark for points in one season, established in 1999-2000, while posting a new career mark for assists in one campaign with 29. He missed the 2002-2003 playoffs due to a wrist injury.
The Rivermen open their ninth season in the ECHL - America's Premier AA Hockey League - at home against the archrival Dayton Bombers on Friday, October 22. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at Carver Arena. Season tickets for 2004-2005 are on sale now. Ticket packages start at just $299.
