
Pasma Promoted To Vice President of Hockey Operations

PRINCETON, N.J. - ECHL Commissioner Brian McKenna announced on Thursday
that effective immediately Rod Pasma has been promoted to Vice President of
Hockey Operations. McKenna also announced that Bryan Graham's title has
been changed to Vice President and Director of Officiating.
Pasma has been Director of Hockey Operations for the past two seasons,
responsible for overseeing team rosters, transactions, player contracts,
immigration and the playing schedule while also serving as the league
contact with the Professional Hockey Players' Association. He will continue
to oversee the hockey operations department, and will add the
responsibility of discipline related to hockey matters, including player
fines and suspensions.
Pasma was the director of compliance for the Central Hockey League in
2001-02 and was responsible for league discipline, salary cap and player
transactions. He was Officiating Coordinator with the National Hockey
League during the 1998-99 and 1999-2000 seasons, handling many aspects of
the officiating department including scouting, supervision and evaluation
of American Hockey League officials and the assignment of minor league
officials and trainees.
Selected in the second round (30th overall) by the Washington Capitals in
the 1990 NHL Entry Draft, the defenseman played three seasons in the
Ontario Hockey League and three seasons at Laurentian University. Pasma,
who received his economics degree from Laurentian, played one professional
season with the Louisiana IceGators in 1995-96.
Began in 1988 with five teams in three states, the ECHL welcomed nine new
markets in 2003-04 and played with 31 teams in 17 states across five time
zones. In 2004-05, the league will play with 30 teams in 17 states and one
Canadian province as it welcomes the Victoria Salmon Kings, who become
first ECHL team outside of the United States, playing in Victoria, British
Columbia. Beginning on October 22 and concluding on April 9, 2005, each of
the teams will play a 72-game schedule comprised of 36 home and 36 road
games. The Premier "AA" Hockey League, the ECHL had affiliation agreements
with 21 of the 30 teams in the NHL and 21 of the 28 teams in the AHL in
2003-04.
