Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release
BILOXI, Miss. â Mississippi Sea Wolves general manager and coach Bob Woods announced today that the team has re-signed left wing Lucas Drake (LEW-kahs DRAYK).
Drake, 24, returns for his second year in Mississippi, keeping his rookie status by playing in a total of 14 games last season. An ECHL player is considered a rookie by appearing in less than 25 total professional games. The 5-foot-10 and 185-pound Drake joined the Sea Wolves after playing four years at Western Michigan, finishing his senior season by tallying nine goals and 25 points in 39 games with the Broncos. A native of Holt, Michigan, Drake notched three assists in nine Sea Wolves games during the regular season and picked up a helper in five postseason games.
"I can't wait to return to Mississippi," said Drake. "I'm so excited to play again for the Sea Wolves coaching staff. It really helped me to come in after college last year and see what it takes to play pro. I'm working on my strength over the summer, so I'll be ready for the regular season and a long run in the Kelly Cup Playoffs."
"Lucas was a nice addition to our lineup late last season," said Woods. "He brings a lot of speed and is an exciting player to watch. We expect that Drake will fit in well again this season after getting a taste of pro hockey last year."
Drake is the third Sea Wolves player to sign for the 2004-05 season, joining Louis Dumont and Anthony Battaglia.
Mississippi opens its ninth ECHL season at home on October 22 against the Louisiana IceGators at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
