Falcons Ink Four Returnees for 2004-05
June 30, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release
Fresno, Calif. â The Fresno Falcons have signed four members of last season' s club to contracts for the 2004-05 ECHL season, including 2003-04 ECHL All-Star Kevin Truelson. Joining Truelson as the first Falcons under contract for the upcoming year are Brian Passmore, Jordan Landry and Wes Rypien.
"Early in the off-season Greg [Spenrath] and I identified all four players as guys that we'd like to have back this year," said Falcons General Manager Blaine Moore. "Kevin is a talented defenseman and gained more experience than most rookies do with all of the ice time we were able to get him last season. Brian handled a trying rookie year very well and has offensive ability that we're excited about seeing over the course of a full season. And both Jordan and Wes caught tough breaks injury-wise, but we know they can provide energy and a physical presence that we'll need if we're going to compete."
As a rookie last season, Truelson was one of the brightest spots for the Falcons when he led the team in scoring among defensemen with 31 points (9g-22a) and represented the club as its lone selection to the ECHL All-Star Team.
Passmore spent a well-traveled rookie season playing for four different ECHL teams, which allowed him to play a total of 73 games â one more than the 72 every team plays. He recorded 37 points (17g-20a) overall, including eight (3g-5a) with the Falcons after arriving via a late February trade.
Landry returns for his third season in a Falcons uniform after battling injuries for much of 2003-04. He suited up for only 29 games, recording 11 points (2g-9a) and 69 penalty minutes.
Injuries plagued Rypien, as well, limiting him to just three games played. He made his presence known in those three contests, racking up 32 penalty minutes, and retains his rookie status for the upcoming year.
The Falcons open the 2004-05 campaign at Save Mart Center on Oct. 22 against the Las Vegas Wranglers. Full season ticket packages and Flex Packs are already on sale beginning as low as $42.
