Former Gladiators Goaltender Turple Called up to NHL Atlanta

The Atlanta Thrashers announced today that they have recalled former Gwinnett Gladiators goaltender Dan Turple from the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League. Turple was reassigned to AHL Chicago from Gwinnett on March 23rd.

Turple's last professional start was with the Gladiators on Sunday, March 22nd in a 4-2 loss against Dayton at the Hobart Arena in Troy, Ohio. The Oakville, Ontario native has appeared in 8 games with the Gladiators this season posting a 2-4-1 record for Gwinnett. He notched a 3.81 goals against average and a .874 save percentage with the Gladiators.

Turple went 5-8-0 in 13 games this year with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League collecting a 2.94 goals against average. He was assigned to the Utah Grizzlies on January 30th where he appeared in two games posting a 0-0-2 record and recording a .909 save percentage.

Turple was 15-12-3 last year with Gwinnett in 30 games. He notched a 3.16 goals against average and a .905 save percentage with the Gladiators. Turple also appeared in one game with Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League last year where he colleced 6 saves in a relief effort with the Griffins.

Turple began his professional career with the Gladiators as he appeared in 34 games with the team in his rookie campaign during the 2006-07 season. He notched a 3.77 goals against average and a .879 save percentage while recording a 18-13-3 record in Gwinnett.

The 6-foot-6, 220-pound goaltender was selected by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 6th round with the #186 overall pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. Turple should be available for the Thrashers as they host the Ottawa Senators tomorrow night at Phillips Arena at 7:00 p.m.

The third-longest tenured professional hockey league behind only the National Hockey League and the American Hockey League, the ECHL averaged 4,174 per game last season, marking the fourth year in row and the 16th time in the last 18 years that the league has averaged over 4,000 fans. The league has drawn over four million fans each of the last five years and 11 times in the past 12 seasons.
