Former Bisons C Brian Dorsett Elected as 101st Member of the Buffalo Baseball Hall of Fame

The Buffalo Baseball Hall of Fame Committee is proud to announce that former Bisons' catcher BRIAN DORSETT has been elected to the Buffalo Baseball Hall of Fame. The team's 1992 Most Valuable Player and one of only three Bisons in the modern era to drive in 100 runs in a single season, Dorsett will be formally inducted during special Hall of Fame ceremonies during the Bisons Honda fridaynightbash!® on August 2 against the Syracuse Mets (7:05 p.m.).

Following induction ceremonies, a plaque honoring Dorsett will be unveiled in Sahlen Field's Hall of Fame Heritage room on the third base side of the ballpark.

Brian Dorsett played in parts of three seasons with the Bisons (1987, 1991, 1992) and hit a combined .282 with 46 doubles, 27 home runs and 124 RBI.

The hard-hitting backstop is best remembered by Bisons fans for his 1992 season that remains one of the top single-season campaigns in the team's modern era. In 131 games that year as the team's Most Valuable Player, Dorsett drove in 102 runs, establishing a new modern era single-season record that has only been matched once since that 1992 season (Alex Ramirez, 103 RBI in 1998). Along with a .289 average, Dorsett collected 142 hits, 35 doubles and 21 home runs, all of which still stands as modern era team records for a catcher.

Dorsett homered in back-to-back games on three different occasions in 1992 and hit a pinch grand slam on August 28 against Indianapolis, a feat that hasn't been accomplished since. With the Herd battling Indy down the homestretch, Dorsett's 19 RBI over the last 14 games of the season propelled the Bisons to an American Association Eastern Division title and the league's best record (87-57).

Dorsett was originally drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 10th round of the 1983 draft and was traded to the Indians in July of 1987, finishing the year with 26 games with the Herd (.256, 4 HR, 14RBI). After signing with the Padres in 1991, he was again traded midseason to the Bisons' Major League parent club, this time the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 29 games with the Herd in 1991, Dorsett hit .272 with two home runs and 18 RBI.

Dorsett appeared in a total of 163 Major League games over eight seasons with the Indians, Angels, Yankees, Padres, Reds and Cubs and hit .224 with nine home runs and 51 RBI.

Buffalo Baseball Hall of Fame Committee The Buffalo Baseball Hall of Fame committee is charged with the task of screening all candidates eligible for induction into the Hall of Fame and to select for induction such persons who have made a significant contribution to Buffalo professional baseball, or such Western New Yorkers who have made a meaningful contribution to professional baseball generally.

The committee is comprised of Mike Buczkowski, Tom Burns, Bob Dicesare, Mike Harrington, Kevin Lester, Duke McGuire, Bob Miske and Pete Weber.
