(Central Islip, N.Y.) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the New Britain Bees 9-8 in walk-off fashion on Thursday night in the finale of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

The Ducks built an early 4-0 lead with a run in the first inning and three in the second against Bees starter Mark Hamburger. Jordany Valdespin scored from third on an error, Daniel Fields lifted a sac fly to right, Dan Lyons plated a run with an RBI fielder's choice, and Emilio Bonifacio beat out an RBI bunt single.

New Britain closed to within 4-2 in the third on Darren Ford's RBI single and Jason Rogers' RBI ground rule double off Ducks starter Bennett Parry. However, a solo homer to left-center by Fields and an RBI single by Travis Snider in the fourth restored Long Island's four-run advantage.

The Bees trimmed their deficit to 6-3 in the sixth on an RBI infield single by Jonathan Galvez. They went on to take the lead in the eighth on Jamar Walton's grand slam to right field, and a solo blast to left by Matt Tuiasosopo in the ninth made it an 8-6 ballgame.

Despite losing the lead, the Ducks rallied back for three runs in the ninth to earn the win. Bonifacio brought the Ducks to within one in with an RBI single, and Lew Ford ended the game with a two-out, two-run home run to left.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Parry lasted six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out four. Hamburger pitched five innings, yielding six runs (five earned) on 10 hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Jose Cuas (1-0) picked up the win despite allowing a run on three hits in the ninth. Evan Scribner (1-2) suffered the loss, surrendering three runs on four hits in two-thirds of an inning.

Valdespin and Bonifacio each had three hits to lead the Flock. Ford, Snider and Taylor Ard each added two hits.

The Ducks continue their homestand on Friday night when they open a three-game series against the Somerset Patriots. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders).
