Lancaster Stormers News Release
After exactly ten hours of baseball during the last two evenings, the Lancaster Barnstormers have taken two out of three from the York Revolution, both wins coming in extra innings.
Nate Coronado launched an 0-2 pitch from James Pugliese onto the Haller Picnic Deck leading off the bottom of the 11th inning to push Lancaster to a 4-3 victory over York in a wild finish to a crazy night at the ballpark.
Both teams struggled to score through the game despite numerous opportunities to do so.
Lancaster parlayed a leadoff double by Coronado in the third inning into the first run of the night. York answered immediately in the top of the fourth with its only run off starter Joe Gardner. Two walks and a single loaded the bases with nobody out, but only a Michael Burgess sac fly got a run across.
The Revs, who drew nine walks in the game, scored again in the sixth as Isaias Tejeda lined a single to right to score Melky Mesa for a 2-1 advantage.
Lancaster fought back in the seventh. Again, it was Coronado getting the rally started. He singled to right, took second on a sacrifice bunt by Darian Sandford, third on a passed ball and scored when Bortnick again picked him up, this time with a sacrifice fly lined to right.
Scott Shuman walked two and hit a batter to open the eighth, but again, York managed only one run as Tejeda drove home Welington Dotel with a sacrifice fly. Blake Gailen fired a perfect strike on the ensuing single by Jose Cuevas to nail Mesa at the plate, keeping the deficit at one run.
Anderson De La Rosa ignited a tying rally in the bottom of the ninth with a single lined to left. Pinch runner Carlos Garcia stole second. Coronado beat out a bunt single as Grant Sides slipped and fell, sending the tying runner to third. Lancaster had Coronado steal second. After Sandford struck out, Bortnick slapped a grounder toward the middle. Ryan Dent saved the game with a diving stop as only Garcia scored. Blake Gailen was walked intentionally to bring up Ryan Casteel. Dotel sent the game to extra innings with a sensational diving catch of Casteel's sinking liner.
York put together a two-out threat in the 11th which was snuffed out when Matt Marksberry (2-1) became Lancaster's ninth pitcher of the game and got Alexi Casilla to ground to short.
The series will conclude on Thursday morning at 11:00 with Nate Reed (6-3) working against Robert Carson (6-3). Fans may tune into BRC-11 or the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning with the first pitch.
NOTES: The game took a season-long 4:16...Coronado had the first four-hit game by a Barnstormer since Trayvon Robinson and Blake Gailen had four each against Somerset on June 18...He also had Lancaster's first walkoff homer of the season...Shuman allowed his first run since May 10...Lancaster is 5-1 in extra inning games this season.
