Tri-City Storm News Release
FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo Force (23-10-5) got ahead early and never trailed, defeating the Tri-City Storm at Scheels Arena by a score of 4-3 on Saturday night.
The Storm got goals from Grant Opperman, Jared Linnell and Brian Ward in the one-goal loss.
The Force started the scoring late in the first period when they took the lead on a goal by Jared Dedenbach at 16:11 and went ahead 2-0 when Matthew Pohlkamp deflected a puck into the back of the net at 3:25 of the second.
Opperman responded quickly, putting a puck past Fargo goaltender Brendan Jensen to get Tri-City on the board just 59 seconds later.
But the Force scored the third goal of the game in less than two minutes just seconds later to increase their lead to 3-1. Jordan Nelson had the tally, banging home a one-timer from in front of the Storm net.
The Storm got back in the game later in the second when Trevor Mingoia found Jared Linnell for a breakaway goal at 13:05 of the middle frame.
Tri-City trailed by just one goal entering the third, but Fargo doubled their lead halfway through the final frame when Gabe Guertler scored his twenty-second goal of the season.
In a last minute effort, Brian Ward was able to put a rebound past Jensen and get the Storm back within one goal, but Tri-City couldn't come up with the equalizer and dropped the game 4-3.
Storm goaltender Johan Mattsson made 29 saves on 33 shots in the loss.
The Storm are back in action on Friday night when they host the Waterloo Blackhawks at the Viaero Event Center. Game time is at 7:30 p.m.
