McAdam made a save with his arm, and the puck popped behind the net to Seamus Malone. The forward came out to the right wing and centered a pass through the crease that Freschi tapped in on the back door to tie the game at three. The goal came at 5:23 and was Freschi's ninth of the season.

The game remained scoreless through the remainder of the third period despite the Fighting Saints outshooting Waterloo 15-5. The two teams played five minutes of overtime and the score could not be settled and the game headed into a shootout.

McAdam denied Dylan Gambrell to start the shootout as the forward's backhander was kicked out, and Taylor Cammarata scored for Waterloo on a shot that beat Girard blocker side. McAdam denied Szmatula, and Girard kept the Fighting Saints alive with a huge left pad save on a deke by Vince Hinostroza. Captain Shane Sooth had a chance to extend the shootout and made his move, put the puck glanced off the post and out to preserve the win for Waterloo.
