Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Taylor Cammarata scored the only goal in a three round shootout Saturday, giving the Waterloo Black Hawks a 4-3 victory at Young Arena against the Dubuque Fighting Saints.

It was the second time in eight days Cammarata has delivered the game-winner in a shootout. One week earlier, he helped Waterloo to a 6-5 shootout decision against the Muskegon Lumberjacks.

Vince Hinostroza had staked the Black Hawks to their first lead 9:11 into the game, speeding into the offensive zone and putting a puck through the pads of Connor Girard as the goaltender came to the top of the crease to challenge the shot. The Saints tied the score just over two minutes later on a redirection by Dylan Gambrell. However, seconds after a power play ended at 13:57, Ryan Papa put the Hawks back in front when Mike Huntebrinker's pass found him on the opposite side of the crease. Eamon McAdam made sure the score remained tilted toward Waterloo with just under three minutes remaining before intermission, poke-checking Jarrid Privitera on a shorthanded breakaway.

After the Hawks spent five of the first eight minutes shorthanded in the second period, J.T. Stenglein added to the lead at 8:47, cutting across the slot into the left wing circle and lifting a shot under the crossbar. Dubuque drew back within one at 13:58 on Joseph Manno's sharp-angled attempt from the right wing circle. Manno nearly tied it minutes later, sending one off the post from the opposite ring.

The Saints did complete their comeback 5:23 into the third period, as Eric Freschi capitalized on a wraparound pass from Seamus Malone. The remainder of the third period and overtime was tense as the visitors outshot the Hawks 15-5 in the final frame. McAdam finished the night with 32 saves, and three shootout stops with Dubuque claiming a 35-23 edge in chances for the evening.

With Saturday's home game in the books, the Black Hawks prepare to play their next three on the road, heading west next weekend to meet the Tri-City Storm and the Omaha Lancers.
