Chicago Steel News Release
FARGO, NORTH DAKOTA - In a tightly-contested contest, Bartek Bison's go-ahead goal in the second period proved to be the difference as the Fargo Force (18-7-2-3, 41 pts.) picked up a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Steel (13-10-1-2, 29 pts.) Saturday night at Scheels Arena. With the victory, Fargo swept the two-game series between the two teams.
Steel defenseman Jeremie Bucheler netted his first career USHL goal while goaltender Oskar Autio made 30 saves on 32 shots on the night.
Fargo tallied the only goal of the first period when Ross Mitton found himself alone on the doorstep and jammed home a cross-ice pass stick-side at the 10:12 mark to put Fargo up 1-0.
Autio kept the Force lead at one just over two minutes into the second period. On a 2-on-1 rush into the Steel zone, Ryan Savage's shot from the bottom of the right circle was denied by the Finnish netminder as he slid to his left to make the save.
At 9:58 of the middle frame, Chicago tied the game. The Steel entered the Fargo zone on a 4-on-2 rush. Bucheler received a pass from Jordan Seyfert in the high slot and drove to the net. When his initial shot was stopped, Bucheler batted the puck out of mid-air past Fargo netminder Ryan Bischel.
But the tie was short-lived as the Force regained the lead less than five minutes later. Bison brought the puck into the Chicago zone on a 2-on-1 rush and fired it into the back of the net from the top of the right circle for his first goal of the season and the eventual game-winner.
Derek Daschke had a chance to tie the game in the third period as he found himself on a shorthanded breakaway, but Bischel stopped him with the right pad as Daschke tried to go blocker side. The Steel had several strong chances in the third period, but Bischel was up to the task.
Fargo outshot Chicago by a 32-31 margin and the teams went a combined 0-for-3 on the power play. For the second night in a row, the Steel were without several players due to illness.
Chicago returns home on Friday, Jan. 12 for '90's Night against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders at Fox Valley Ice Arena for the first game of a three-game weekend. Steel games are carried live on Mixlr (free audio) and HockeyTV (iPPV). For more information, visit ChicagoSteelHockeyTeam.com/broadcast.
